Write a Letter
Writing a letter allows you to express your feelings. It can be used for any type of emotion with any type of situation. For example: You may have had a bad day at the office and need to vent but have no one you chose to vent to. Maybe you are recovering from an addiction and writing to that addiction will help free you. The great thing is with this type of therapy you can do it on your own. No one else has to be involved unless you so choose.
Another good example would be when you are angry at someone. By expressing all your anger in a letter, it gets out all the raw emotion so you can then think clearly. You do not have to send the letter to the person unless you want to do so. Sometimes expressing the feelings is more important then sending the message. You might want to write one letter that you know will not be sent as an exercise in catharsis. After you have fully expressed your feelings, you can rewrite the letter into a form with which you feel comfortable in sharing.
A few tips to help with this:
Find a quiet place and time to do this exercise.
Close your eyes and relax.
Call forth the energy of the emotion you want to transmute.
Allow yourself to feel it in your body.
Use colorful paper or writing utensils.
Include doodles or draw pictures as you write.
Let it all out!!
